One to One Training in Plaster Model / Mould Making and Slip Casting
This training course is for anyone who is interested in learning the fundamentals of plaster model and mould making and slip casting.
It is a creative and productive 3 day training course, in which you will learn each of the processes required to make a porcelain slip cast cup or mug of your own design. Along the way you will learn some really useful tips that make plaster a joy to work with, and you will develop an understanding of the particular considerations required when slip casting with porcelain.
Days 1 and 2 are run consecutively, with 3 a week or two weeks later to allow time for your mould to dry and be ready for slip casting. Once completed, your slip cast form will need to dry out and be fired. This does mean that you will not be able to take completed work away with you, I will notify you once your work has been fired and is available to collect (or I can organise postage for an additional cost). Your models and moulds are yours to take home with you at the end of the workshop.
Day 1: You will learn how to create a design, how to turn a plaster model on the lathe and how to carve a plaster handle by hand that fits your plaster model perfectly.
Day 2: You will learn how to create a drop out mould from your plaster model and how to create a mould of your handle.
Day 3: You will learn how to slip cast with Parian porcelain from your moulds, and how to build and finish your cup ready for bisque firing.
